The CEO of BP Bunge Bioenergia, Geovane Consul, was the Keynote Speaker at the 2024 edition of “The Dubai Sugar Conference 2024”, considered the world’s leading event for the sugar sector, which took place between March 5 and 7 this year, in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. The executive spoke about the future scenarios for the sweetener, such as volumes, climate, logistics and will show the company’s evolution in the development of sustainable and regenerative agriculture.

“Based on our market intelligence data, we will provide an analysis of how BP Bunge sees the current and future sugar market, with its challenges and opportunities. We will also show our development and application of solutions and best practices in field management, aimed at sustainability, quality and productivity of sugarcane plantations. In these four years of operation, we have invested more than BRL 300 million in initiatives related to regenerative agriculture. As a result, we have seen numerous gains, such as a reduction in carbon emissions, less dependence on exported agricultural inputs, as well as an increase in productivity, which is expected to rise by 20% by 2025.”

The initiatives and results that have made BP Bunge a benchmark in the practice of regenerative agriculture in Brazil, such as the discipline in adopting the fundamentals and the capacity for large-scale application of bio-inputs from bacteria and organic matter, will also be presented by the executive. In the 22/23 harvest, for example, nitrogen fertilizers have already been replaced by biological fertilizers in 100% of the planting area through the use of nitrogen-fixing bacteria. In the case of ratoon areas, the company uses bacteria to increase productivity by up to 10%, and this has already led to a 50% reduction in nitrogen doses.

The event’s agenda also included the participation of Ricardo Carvalho, commercial and origination director of BP Bunge Bioenergia, who spoke on the panel Hakuna Matata – Brazil to the Rescue, on March 5.

The Dubai Sugar Conference is held annually and is attended by companies and sugar market leaders from around the world. In 2024, the theme of the event will be “A time for sugar. A time to be seized”, reinforcing the promising moment that characterizes the current scenario for this commodity.
